Yeungnam University of Science and Technology to launch AI logistics automation department

Yeungnam University of Science and Technology in Daegu announced Monday that it will establish a new AI Logistics Automation Department to meet growing demand in the AI-driven logistics industry and automated fulfillment center market.

The two-year, practice-oriented department will integrate AI, logistics automation, facility maintenance and smart factory technology. It will begin enrolling students — with an intake of 50 per year — from the 2027 academic year.

The department aims to train specialists in AI-based facility operation and maintenance, equipping graduates with the skills to operate, inspect, service and diagnose equipment faults in automated logistics environments.

The department will be jointly operated with Coupang Inc's fulfillment services arm, giving students who complete the curriculum a direct pathway to employment with the company.

Graduates who apply to Coupang Inc's fulfillment division will receive bonus points in the hiring process, and those who join the company will have access to a dedicated career fast-track program offering a range of advancement opportunities.

The university opened an AI Logistics Education Center in partnership with Coupang Inc's fulfillment services unit in July, formally launching its effort to cultivate specialists for the era of AI- and robot-driven logistics automation.

Students will use real industrial equipment at the on-campus center to learn how AI-based logistics automation systems operate and how work flows through them.

The hands-on approach is designed to address the limitations of theory-heavy instruction, giving students practical experience in facility operation and the problem-solving skills that automated logistics workplaces demand.

"We will spare no effort to ensure the AI Logistics Automation Department becomes a foundation for nurturing future industry talent in the region and a solid launching pad for young people to take on new technological challenges," said Yeungnam University of Science and Technology President Lee Jae-yong.
