Nowon-gu's district website will unveil "Nowon Reconstruction & Redevelopment NOW ON" on Friday, offering a map-based overview of all ongoing urban renewal projects. Key details — project outlines, progress stages and site maps — are available at a glance, giving residents and the district mayor access to the same up-to-date information.
Nowon-gu in Seoul will launch "Nowon Reconstruction & Redevelopment NOW ON" on its district website on Friday.
The platform is designed to share real-time progress updates on the multiple reconstruction and redevelopment projects advancing simultaneously across the district.
NOW ON is an integrated online service that consolidates previously scattered urban renewal information in one place. Residents can use an interactive map to check the location and current status of every reconstruction and redevelopment project in the district at a glance.
For each project site, the platform provides the current progress stage, general information including location and lot area, the planned project scale, and contact details for the responsible department. Renderings and redevelopment plan drawings are also published as projects advance through their respective stages.
NOW ON draws on the same data used by the "Smart Vision" system in the district mayor's office. In September, Nowon-gu upgraded its Smart Vision system, which gives officials a consolidated view of major district projects, policies and disaster-safety matters. The upgrade also established a framework for systematically managing the overall status of urban renewal projects and key information for each one. Through this setup, the district mayor plans to directly monitor progress and outstanding issues for each project and share key developments with residents.
The district regards transparent information disclosure as essential to keeping urban renewal projects on track, viewing clear and accurate communication with residents as critical to smooth execution. Given the complex web of interests involved in such projects, Nowon-gu has been working to prevent information gaps or confusion from fueling conflicts among residents. Renewal project promotion committees are also regularly reminded to fully disclose project-related materials to uphold residents' right to information.
Since the start of the ninth elected-term administration, the district has been strengthening its support for urban renewal projects along two main pillars: institutional reform to improve project viability, and tailored on-site support for each complex. NOW ON's transparent information disclosure is intended to complement these efforts, giving residents a direct window into project progress and a channel for ongoing communication with the district administration.
On the institutional reform front, the district is pursuing "Reconstruction & Redevelopment Regulatory Reform 100," an initiative to identify and improve 100 unreasonable regulations, while actively petitioning the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the central government on matters requiring legislative or systemic changes. For on-site support, the district has launched the Nowon Reconstruction & Redevelopment Expert Advisory Panel, comprising specialists across relevant fields, and the Nowon Reconstruction & Redevelopment Innovation Strategy Council, which includes resident representatives. Both bodies support the resolution of issues at each stage of the process, from redevelopment planning through to completion.
"Reconstruction and redevelopment directly affect residents' living environment and property rights, so residents must be able to check on project progress at any time," Nowon-gu District Mayor Seo Jun-o said. "We will enhance the transparency and credibility of urban renewal projects while swiftly translating feedback from the field into institutional improvements and tailored support, delivering results that residents can actually feel."
