Uniqlo announced Thursday that it is holding a "Re.Uniqlo Repair Workshop" to mark International Repair Day.
The workshop runs across five showings at its Myeong-dong store from Wednesday through Friday. Participants, recruited in advance through Jaeneedle — a circular fashion platform — bring their own clothes to repair during the sessions.
Each showing is built around a different technique: appliqué, which involves patching fabric scraps onto garments; sashiko, a Japanese embroidery method that has been gaining attention on social media; and darning, a technique used to mend holes in clothing.
Artist Choi Yu-jeong joined the first showing on Wednesday as a special guest. Choi repaired a piece of clothing she had brought and spoke with other participants about ways to extend the life of garments and the joy of mending.
"We will continue to expand Re.Uniqlo activities that help customers rediscover the value of their clothes and practice a virtuous cycle of clothing in their everyday lives," said Yoon Bo-ram, Uniqlo's sustainability manager.
