Seongju-gun holds pungmul festival; Wolhang Nonghyup Hanullim wins top prize

Seongju-gun in North Gyeongsang Province held the 2026 Seongju-gun Pungmul Festival at Seongbaksup on Tuesday.

The Chojeon-myeon pungmul troupe drew attention during the competition by performing Daejangdeulsori, a traditional folk art form of the region.

Wolhang Nonghyup Hanullim Pungmul Pae took the top prize, while Daega Hanmaeum Pungmul Pae claimed second place.

Third-place honors went to three groups: Seongju-eup Seongju Nonghyup Chamoe Sarang Pungmul Pae, Pungmulgutpae Eoulim, and Gacheon-myeon Gayasan Sansaesori Pungmul Pae.

The Gacheon Gayasan Sansaesori Pungmul Pae, formed last year, made its award win at this year's competition a particularly meaningful achievement.

"We will continue working to preserve and pass down the region's unique traditional culture, including Daejangdeulsori, and to promote cultural and artistic activities — such as pungmul — as part of everyday life," a Seongju-gun official said.
