The attack was prompted by the sight of his ex-wife with another man
A man in his late 50s has been sentenced to three years in prison for stabbing his ex-wife's partner with a weapon and injuring the victim's genitals and other parts of his body.
Seoul Southern District Court's Criminal Division 12, presided over by Judge Park Jong-yeol, sentenced the 59-year-old defendant, identified only as A, on charges of aggravated assault and violations of the Stalking Punishment Act. The court also ordered him to complete a 40-hour stalking treatment program.
A is accused of stabbing his ex-wife's partner multiple times with a weapon at a park in Yeongdeungpo-gu on May 19.
Investigators found that A carried out the attack after seeing his ex-wife with another man and becoming enraged.
The victim sustained stab wounds to the genitals, chest, abdomen and thighs, but his life was not in danger.
The court said the defendant "repeatedly attacked the victim's body with the intent to render him effectively sexually incapacitated," and that he had "received requests not to contact or approach the victim — his ex-wife — yet loitered in the area and committed the crime."
The court added that "the victim's physical and mental suffering appears to have been considerable" and that "the nature of the offense is grave, warranting a commensurate punishment."
