Broadcaster Kwak Beom received a commendation plaque from North Jeolla Province on Monday.
Kwak, a native of Jeonju, was recognized for actively promoting the appeal of North Jeolla Province through his broadcasting work. He received the commendation plaque and a North Jeolla Province Resident Love Certificate at the provincial government office that day, Yonhap reported.
Kwak has recently appeared on MBN's "Jeonhyeonmu Plan 4" and MBC's "Nolmyeon Mwohani," introducing viewers to North Jeolla Province and showing his affection for the region. He has also warmly spotlighted the old downtown commercial district of Jeonju, along with hidden local restaurants and attractions.
Kwak has served as an honorary promotional ambassador for the province since 2023.
His ties to Jeonju run deep — he graduated from Jeonju Samcheon Elementary School, Jeonju Haeseong Middle School and Jeonju Haeseong High School.
Kwak made his name through the KBS comedy program "Gag Concert" after joining the broadcaster as a 21st-class recruited comedian in 2012. He has since maintained an active presence both online and offline.
He has been praised for the breadth of his comedic range, which draws on an exaggerated impersonation style blended with humor, quick wit and sharp reactions, as well as strong vocal ability.
More recently, he appeared on the Wavve survival variety program "Piui Game X," where he was credited with defusing the show's inherently tense atmosphere with his comedic sensibility and creating several memorable moments.
Kwak was also appointed as an honorary promotional ambassador for Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC when the club played a home match against Daejeon on May 6 last year.
