'You are the hero who nurtures children's tomorrow': Yongsan-gu marks Childcare Workers' Day

Seoul's Yongsan-gu held its 2026 Childcare Workers' Day ceremony Friday at the Garam Studio of Yongsan Arts Hall, the district announced.

About 300 childcare staff — including daycare center directors and teachers from across the district — attended to encourage one another and share experiences and rewarding moments from their work.

Held under the theme "You nurture children's tomorrow — today, you are the hero," the event was organized to express gratitude to staff who have dedicated themselves to children's healthy development and safe care environments.

At the ceremony, 32 exemplary childcare workers who have contributed to the advancement of childcare services received commendations, while four long-serving staff members who have worked at a single daycare center for 10 or more years were presented with appreciation plaques.

The event also featured "Maljasho," a comedy show hosted by comedian Kim Yeong-hui. Centered on the theme of "genuine communication across generations and relationships," the show drew strong laughter and warm resonance from the audience through Kim's signature wit and candid storytelling. Childcare workers set aside the pressures of their daily routines for a moment, sharing laughs and finding time to recharge.

Yongsan-gu currently supports the operation of 82 daycare centers in the district. The district is focused on improving the childcare environment — including efforts to enhance teacher-to-child ratios — so that children can grow up in safe and comfortable surroundings.

"The care and dedication of childcare workers who warmly fill each child's day is the force that nurtures Yongsan's future," Yongsan-gu District Mayor Kim Gyeong-dae said. "We will build a childcare environment where staff can take pride in caring for children, and where children can grow up safely and happily."
