Ulsan's Nam-gu wins presidential citation for disaster management

Ulsan's Nam-gu district announced Sunday that it received a presidential institutional citation for the 2026 National Disaster Management Merit Award, presented by the Ministry of Interior and Safety, in recognition of its outstanding administration in disaster prevention, preparedness, response and recovery.

The district has focused on overhauling its disaster response systems, strengthening cooperation with relevant agencies, and conducting field-oriented drills — including the Safe Korea Exercise and radiation disaster response training — to ensure rapid initial response, situation management and inter-agency coordination when major social disasters or safety incidents occur, limiting the spread of damage.

Starting this year, the district reinforced the roles of departments involved in disaster response through scenario-based simulation drills tailored to various disaster types. It also introduced "ready boxes" — pre-packed sets of field equipment designed to enable the integrated support headquarters and victim assistance center to deploy quickly at disaster scenes — establishing a proactive, field-centered response framework.

"This presidential citation is the result of our efforts to prioritize the safety of residents above all else, strengthen our field-centered disaster management systems, and work tirelessly on disaster prevention and response," Nam-gu District Chief Seo Dong-wook said.
