Strategic project packages to be pursued in phased approach
Gwangsan-gu chief Park Byung-gyu moved immediately upon returning to office to implement the "Connected City Gwangsan" vision in response to the planned launch of the South Jeolla-Gwangju integrated special city.
Park's first official act after returning June 4 was to approve the "South Jeolla-Gwangju Integrated Special City — Connected City Gwangsan Promotion Strategy."
The strategy lays out specific action items and a phased implementation plan for "Connected City Gwangsan," a key campaign pledge Park has put forward for the upcoming ninth round of local elections.
The concept envisions Gwangsan-gu serving as a platform city that organically links the South Jeolla-Gwangju integrated special city across a range of areas — jobs and the economy, residents' lifestyle, urban space, culture and administration — to drive balanced regional development.
Gwangsan-gu plans to flesh out action items under four core strategic pillars and pursue the Connected City Gwangsan strategy in stages, in cooperation with the integrated special city authority and neighboring local governments.
"In the era of the integrated special city, Gwangsan-gu will become the hub connecting people and industry, culture and transportation, and cities and regions," Park said. "Building on the innovative achievements of the eighth term of local government that we created together with residents, I will realize the Connected City Gwangsan vision across all areas of district administration and lead balanced development and mutual prosperity across South Jeolla and Gwangju."
