Hite Jinro said Monday it carried out an environmental cleanup at Dakmeoru coast in Jeju to mark World Oceans Day.
The company has conducted quarterly cleanups since launching the initiative at Jeju's Pyoseon Beach in 2020. From 2024, it expanded the effort into a collaborative ESG program with external partner organizations.
This round was joined by the Jeju Regional Coast Guard, Ara General Social Welfare Center, Korea Electric Power Corp.'s Jeju headquarters and Jeju Campus of Korea Polytechnic University. The roughly 60 participants collected about 2 metric tons of waste, including plastics, worn fishing nets and vinyl.
Hite Jinro's Jeju branch has received recognition for its efforts, earning a commendation from the head of the Jeju Regional Coast Guard in late 2024 and a ministerial award from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries in 2025.
