Min Hyeong-bae, mayor-elect of the Gwangju-South Jeolla Province Integrated Special City, said Sunday that the government and private companies are preparing semiconductor investment plans that would exceed expectations.
Min made the remarks at the launch ceremony of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Great Transformation Planning Committee — his transition body — held that morning at the Bitgaram Complex Culture and Sports Center in Naju, South Jeolla Province. He said the new integrated city would receive semiconductor-related investment.
Min has pledged to attract semiconductor, AI and mobility industries to the Gwangju-South Jeolla Province Integrated Special City, which is set to launch in July.
Jeong Eun-seung, chair of the transition committee and a former president of Samsung Electronics, said the committee's goal is to build "the most dynamic, innovative growth hub in South Korea." "Growth is what creates opportunities for youth, sustains welfare and opens up the region's future," he said.
Min said the planning committee would draw up a blueprint for balanced growth across the integrated city grounded in civic sovereignty. "We will not stop at crafting good policy — we will identify the technologies that will define the next 30 to 50 years and make Gwangju-South Jeolla Province a growth engine for South Korea," he said.
