A story about BTS member RM giving rapper Sleepy 10 million won (approximately $6,480) as a wedding gift has been making the rounds online again.
Rapper DinDin mentioned the gesture in a recent video posted to the YouTube channel "Ting Ting Ting Ting," saying RM had sent the sum to Sleepy for his wedding.
Sleepy married in 2022 and had previously confirmed the gift on a television program.
According to accounts from both DinDin and Sleepy, RM was active as an amateur rapper during middle school, posting his work to hip-hop music communities online. Sleepy noticed the material and introduced RM to Pdogg, a producer at Big Hit — now HYBE. Pdogg then recommended RM to Bang Si-hyuk, the current HYBE chairman. Bang was reportedly so impressed by RM's rap skills that he called him a "rap monster," a phrase that became the basis for RM's stage name.
Grateful for the introduction, RM reached out to Sleepy directly upon hearing of his wedding and asked for his bank account number to send the gift.
Sleepy has said in various broadcasts that he watched RM throughout his trainee years, and RM is said to have continued building his music career through ties with the hip-hop crew Sleepy belonged to.
Sleepy married a non-celebrity eight years his junior in 2022 and is now the father of two daughters.
