Yeongdeungpo-gu to hold Onuri gift voucher refund event at Yeongdeungpo Traditional Market

Seoul's Yeongdeungpo-gu said it will hold an "Onuri Gift Voucher Refund Event" at Yeongdeungpo Traditional Market from June 10 to 14.

The event, organized by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, is designed to boost consumption of domestically produced seafood and revitalize traditional markets. Shoppers receive a portion of their seafood purchase amount back in Onuri gift vouchers — certificates issued to support traditional markets and neighborhood commercial districts. The vouchers can be purchased at up to a 10 percent discount during holidays and 7 percent off at other times, with an income deduction benefit of up to 40 percent.

A total of 240 traditional markets nationwide are taking part. Yeongdeungpo Traditional Market was selected as a participating venue based on a comprehensive assessment of visitor numbers and merchant association enrollment. Fifteen stores inside the market will join the event, and shoppers can identify participating stores by the notices posted at each entrance.

During the event, customers who buy domestic or ocean-caught seafood at participating stores can receive up to 30 percent of their purchase back in Onuri gift vouchers. Shoppers spending between 34,000 won (about $22) and less than 67,000 won will receive 10,000 won back, while those spending 67,000 won or more will receive 20,000 won. The refund is capped at 20,000 won per person.

To claim a refund, shoppers must bring their purchase receipt and a form of identification to the refund booth set up inside the market. Only legally valid receipts are accepted; simplified receipts do not qualify. The event may end early if the allocated budget runs out.

Yeongdeungpo-gu District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon said he hopes the event will "create a mutually beneficial space where consumers get real value for their money and merchants gain new energy."
