Anmyeondo Local Garden Opens as West Sea's Premier Garden Destination

Anmyeondo Local Garden, celebrated for its natural beauty, is set to become the hub of garden tourism along South Korea's West Sea coast.

South Chungcheong Province officially registered Anmyeondo Local Garden on June 1 as the province's signature coastal garden — one that blends shoreline scenery with forest landscapes — and announced Monday that operations have begun.

The garden was developed from 2016 at a cost of 26.2 billion won (about $16.9 million) and covers 208,953 square meters at San 14-207, Jungjang-ri, Anmyeon-eup, Taean-gun. It is a public garden that draws on the area's distinctive natural assets, including its scenic coastal views and the Anmyeon pine forest.

The garden is organized into three themed sections: the Salt Flower Garden, which makes use of coastal natural resources; the Smile Flower Garden, designed with children and families in mind; and the Mist Flower (healing) Garden, set among Anmyeon pine and cypress groves.

The site features 346,899 plants spanning 535 species and maintains a green-space ratio of 75 percent, earning recognition as a garden that balances ecological integrity with public accessibility.

Alongside this, the garden is equipped with a dedicated management team and specialist staff to ensure stable operations, as well as a garden center and a range of amenity and hands-on experience facilities, enabling it to serve recreation, healing and education functions.

The province plans to develop the garden into the West Sea region's premier garden tourism destination by linking it with the adjacent Anmyeondo Arboretum and Anmyeondo Natural Recreation Forest, combining garden, leisure and tourism offerings in one corridor.

"The registration of Anmyeondo Local Garden marks a new milestone in South Chungcheong's garden policy and an important starting point for ushering in a new era of West Sea garden tourism," said Lee Yong-gil, head of the province's forest recreation division. "We will steadily pursue national garden designation on the strength of three years of operating earnings."
