A sinkhole opened on a road near Seobang Intersection in Gyerim-dong, Dong-gu, Gwangju, at around 12:46 a.m. Friday.
The sinkhole measured 1.5 meters deep and 1 meter in diameter. No injuries or property damage were reported, but lane closures for repair work caused traffic delays during the morning commute.
The Gwangju General Construction Headquarters said a leak in a water supply pipe buried beneath the road is believed to have caused the sinkhole, and repair work is underway.
