Gijang-gun opens Jeonggwan EduPark, completing education and culture complex

Gijang-gun announced Tuesday that Jeonggwan EduPark, located on Mojeon-ro in Jeonggwan-eup, will hold its opening ceremony at 2 p.m. on Friday and begin full operations.

The ceremony will take place in Sohaengdae Hall inside Jeonggwan EduPark and will proceed in the following order: an opening performance, a construction progress report, a commendation plaque presentation, congratulatory remarks, a ribbon-cutting and a facility tour. The opening performance will feature the Gijang Symphony Orchestra, the Jeonggwan Women's Sunshine Choir, a local youth dance team and a large drum performance by a professional troupe.

Jeonggwan EduPark is the second phase of the Jeonggwan Education Happy Town development project, following the first-phase Aqua Dream Park and the third-phase Sports Healing Park. Its opening completes Jeonggwan Education Happy Town, the district's flagship hub bringing together education, culture, sports and leisure infrastructure.

The complex spans one below-ground floor and four above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 11,635.17 square meters. Its facilities include a children's library, a youth center, a young adult center called Cheong:ryujang, a lifelong learning center, a living culture center, a hub English center, a college counseling room, a shared childcare center and Sohaengdae Hall, a large auditorium.

Cheong:ryujang is Gijang-gun's first dedicated space for young adults, designed as a multipurpose community hub where youth can gather, connect and grow. It is equipped with a shared lounge, seminar rooms and a media room, and offers support for employment, entrepreneurship, self-development and networking.

"The opening of Jeonggwan EduPark, a combined education and culture complex, completes Jeonggwan Education Happy Town — a place with solid educational infrastructure and a rich cultural and leisure environment," Gijang-gun Mayor Jeong Jong-bok said. "We will make sure it becomes a genuinely useful space for local residents."
