Hyundai Motor management, union donate 105 million won to veterans' welfare

Hyundai Motor's management and union jointly donated 105 million won ($68,300) to Habitat for Humanity Korea and nine local veterans organizations Wednesday at the Ulsan Metropolitan City Veterans Hall in Jung-gu, Ulsan, marking the month of national patriotism and veterans' commemoration.

Of the total, 50 million won will fund the "H-Dream House" project, which improves residential conditions for four low-income veterans' households in the Ulsan area. The remaining 55 million won will go toward living expenses for more than 50 low-income veterans and operating costs for nine veterans groups — including the Independence Hall Association, the War Widows Association, the Order of Military Merit Recipients Association, the Special Mission Veterans Association, the Korean War Veterans Association, the Vietnam War Veterans Association, the Disabled Veterans Association, the War Bereaved Families Association and the Agent Orange Veterans Association.

Hyundai Motor management and union have supported Ulsan-area veterans organizations and their families since 2008, now in their 19th consecutive year, with cumulative donations reaching 980 million won. The H-Dream House project, which has targeted vulnerable veterans since last year, has accumulated 150 million won in total contributions.

"We are grateful to all those who devoted themselves to the nation during the month of national patriotism and veterans' commemoration," a Hyundai Motor official said. "We hope this support, prepared together by Hyundai Motor's management and union, will help stabilize the livelihoods of veterans in the Ulsan area."
