Ulsan City Council holds code of conduct advisory committee meeting

The Ulsan City Council, chaired by Lee Seong-ryong, held a meeting of its Code of Conduct Advisory Committee on Wednesday at a multipurpose conference room on the fourth floor of the council building, sharing updates on how the code of conduct for local council members is being implemented.

The advisory committee operates under the Ulsan Metropolitan City Council's ordinance on members' ethics and code of conduct. It advises on receiving and investigating reports of code violations, providing education and counseling to lawmakers, and conducting compliance inspections.

At the meeting, lawmakers reviewed the key provisions of the code of conduct: a prohibition on using budgets outside their intended purpose, a ban on soliciting personnel appointments, restrictions on committee activities related to official duties, a ban on involvement in or brokering of vested interests, a prohibition on accepting money or gifts, and limits on honoraria for outside lectures.

Members also exchanged views on ways to strengthen the effectiveness of code of conduct operations, the direction for promoting a culture of compliance among lawmakers, and approaches to education and counseling programs.

Council Speaker Lee said the committee would help the council "continue to carry out legislative activities in a fairer and more responsible manner."
