Bosnia keep World Cup last-32 hopes alive with 3-1 rout of Qatar

Bosnia and Herzegovina kept their 2026 World Cup round-of-32 hopes alive Wednesday, routing Qatar in their final group-stage match.

Bosnia defeated Qatar 3-1 in their Group B finale at Seattle Stadium on Wednesday in Korean Standard Time.

Ilaijbegovic opened the scoring in the 29th minute, and Qatar goalkeeper Mahmoud Abunada added an own goal five minutes later.

Qatar pulled one back through forward Hassan Al Haydos in the 42nd minute, but midfielder Mahmijic sealed the win with a right-footed shot from the center of the box in the 80th minute.

The victory kept Bosnia third in Group B and preserved their path to the round of 32. Bosnia are level on four points with second-place Canada but drop to third under head-to-head rules after losing 4-1 to Canada in their second match. Bosnia now look to claim one of the eight wildcard spots available to the top third-placed teams across all groups.

Qatar, meanwhile, finished bottom of the group without a single win at this tournament.

Canada lost 1-2 to Switzerland on Wednesday but still secured second place and a spot in the round of 32. If South Korea clinch their own round-of-32 berth against South Africa on Wednesday, Canada would be their next opponent.
