HUG pledges continued housing support for veterans, reaches 10 billion won in cumulative aid

Korea Housing Finance Corp. (HUG) announced Thursday that it donated 400 million won ($260,000) at a ceremony held Wednesday at the Federation of Korean Industries Conference Center in Yeouido, Seoul, marking the 2026 National Merit Recipients Housing Improvement Project. The contribution brings HUG's cumulative donations to national merit recipients to 10 billion won.

The event was held to jointly mark HUG's housing lease fund support program for homeless national merit recipients and the Korea Housing Builders Association's aging-home repair support program. About 100 people attended, including HUG President Choi In-ho, representatives of national merit recipients, officials from the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Korean Independence Hall, and companies participating in the home repair program.

HUG's housing lease fund support program for homeless national merit recipients is the corporation's longest-running corporate social responsibility initiative. It has operated continuously for 32 years since 1995 to honor national merit recipients and support stable housing for veterans and their families.

Choi presented a housing lease fund donation certificate to a representative of national merit recipients and expressed deep gratitude for their service to the nation.

In his welcoming remarks, Choi said, "Today's Republic of Korea would not exist without the sacrifices and dedication of our national merit recipients," adding, "We pay our respects to their patriotic spirit, and HUG will continue its efforts to improve the housing welfare of veterans and their families."

Through the program, HUG has provided a total of 9.526 billion won to 2,148 households of homeless national merit recipients. This year, the 400 million won donation is expected to provide additional housing lease fund support to 77 households.
