Event runs June 28–July 12; broadcast to over 100 countries, with more than 80,000 fans expected
Daejeon is ramping up preparations to ensure a successful run of the League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational 2026, known as MSI 2026.
The tournament runs June 28 through July 12 at Hall 2 of the Daejeon Convention Center. MSI 2026 is the premier mid-season world championship in esports, bringing together 11 elite teams from six regions around the globe — including South Korea's LCK representatives Hanwha Life Esports and T1. Tickets have already sold out, reflecting strong enthusiasm among esports fans worldwide.
Daejeon city officials expect more than 80,000 visitors from around the world during the tournament period and anticipate the economic ripple effect on the local economy to exceed 100 billion won ($65 million).
In response, the city has prepared a range of programs and amenities so that visitors can enjoy the area around the Daejeon Convention Center as a festival destination, going beyond simply watching matches.
A fan festival called "Fan Festa" will be held at Hanbit Plaza in Expo Science Park, adjacent to the convention center's Hall 2. Open free of charge to all visitors, the event runs July 3 through July 12 and will feature a new champion-themed tunnel, a game arcade and an exhibition marking the 10th anniversary of the LCK, among other programs.
MSI 2026 is also set to be broadcast live to more than 100 countries, with cumulative viewership projected to surpass 100 million. Daejeon plans to air promotional videos showcasing the city's advanced science infrastructure and urban scenery before and after match broadcasts, introducing Daejeon to audiences worldwide.
"MSI 2026 is a great opportunity to show the world that Daejeon is not only South Korea's science capital but also a global esports hub that excites young people everywhere and a city leading the advanced cultural content industry," a Daejeon city official said. "We will do our utmost to ensure that visitors from home and abroad can experience the full excitement of the tournament alongside the many charms Daejeon has to offer."
