JTBC has failed to pay appearance fees for some of its variety programs after the broadcaster filed for court receivership amid a cash crunch.
"It is true that some appearance fee payments have been delayed due to the rehabilitation proceedings," JTBC said Thursday, adding that it is processing the payments in line with court procedures.
A media outlet reported Wednesday that cast members of several JTBC variety programs — including "Knowing Bros," "Please Take Care of My Refrigerator" and "Divorce Contemplation Camp" — did not receive their fees on the scheduled payment date this month.
Another outlet reported that production had been halted on some JTBC variety programs, but the broadcaster denied the claim, saying all variety shows are on track to film as scheduled.
However, JTBC's new drama series "Yeonaeui Jaebalgyon," a romance series, has suspended filming for one month for reorganization, drawing scrutiny over whether other productions will also face disruptions.
JTBC defaulted on June 12 after failing to repay an asset-backed loan of about 20.6 billion won ($13.4 million), and filed for corporate rehabilitation proceedings along with four other JoongAng Group affiliates. A 22 billion won commercial paper issued by JoongAng Ilbo was subsequently declared a final default, followed by a first-round default on 36 billion won worth of JTBC's own commercial paper. On Tuesday, the Seoul Rehabilitation Court held a representative hearing for the JoongAng Group affiliates.
