Construction Workers Mutual Aid Association holds first Jeju outreach event, encouraging 300 workers

The Construction Workers Mutual Aid Association visited a construction site in Jeju to hold an outreach event for workers — the first such event since the association's founding on the island — aimed at addressing gaps in safety and welfare support for construction workers.

Chairman Jang Geon hosted the "Construction Workers Outreach Event" Thursday at the site of the Jeju public sewage treatment facility modernization project in Jeju. The event was organized to encourage workers who have kept construction sites running despite the economic slowdown and to hear their concerns firsthand. It was the first field outreach event the association has held in Jeju since its establishment.

The initiative targeted construction workers in Jeju, who have had relatively limited access to the association's administrative and welfare services due to the island's geographic characteristics. It follows a Labor Day family event held in May and outreach events in the Gyeongsang region — including Daegu and Busan — as part of a nationwide series of regional site visits.

Chairman Jang and association executives, along with staff from the Jeju center, attended the event and met with about 300 workers on site. Taking into account the heavy outdoor work during the hot summer months, the association operated a food truck to provide beverages and distributed portable emergency kits to help workers handle minor injuries such as abrasions.

"Through this first-ever field outreach event in Jeju, we were able to hear firsthand about the real difficulties faced by workers in island communities," Jang said. "We will continue to expand tailored welfare services so that no worker is left behind due to geographic limitations."

Meanwhile, the association plans to continue the outreach series through October, making successive visits to major construction sites across the Greater Seoul, central and Honam regions.
