Incheon Environmental Corp. expects to reduce approximately 17,000 tons of greenhouse gas this year.
The projected reduction represents about 6 percent of the corporation's annual estimated greenhouse gas emissions of 285,000 tons.
Key reduction projects include methane gas recovery at sewage treatment facilities, energy efficiency improvements, government-funded projects and the operation of solar power generation equipment.
The corporation has also secured eight government-funded energy projects this year with a combined budget of 1.6 billion won ($1.04 million) and is carrying out high-efficiency equipment upgrades under those projects.
Once completed, the projects are expected to cut an additional 1,070 tons of greenhouse gas and save 2,272 megawatt-hours of energy annually.
Meanwhile, the corporation reduced 19,355 tons of greenhouse gas last year.
