Democratic Party lawmaker blasts Han Dong-hoon over semiconductor cluster comparison

Moon Jin-seog, a Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker, lashed out at independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon on Saturday, saying he has "no concept or philosophy of balanced national development" and is "showing the worst kind of politician — one who knows nothing about semiconductor market trends and thinks only of his own political gain."

Moon wrote on his Facebook page that Han had compared Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix's "second semiconductor cluster" to the Mir Foundation, which was created under "coercion" during the Park Geun-hye administration.

Moon then said "the semiconductor market has now gone beyond a simple supply-and-demand curve and is being treated as a strategic asset," adding that "since supply shortages will continue going forward, capacity scale-up must naturally be pursued quickly."

Turning to Han directly, Moon said "Han, who comes from a prosecutorial background, is so accustomed to intimidating people that he apparently sees this massive investment as something coerced," and urged him to "fix that narrow-minded view first, if he wants to do politics that benefits people's lives even a little."

Moon went on to say "the intimidation Han is talking about is Yoon Suk Yeol's behavior — dragging busy corporate chiefs to a market for a tteokbokki mukbang after failing to win the Busan Expo bid," and asked, "Did you, as justice minister at the time, ever tell Yoon Suk Yeol to stop the gapjil?"
