Icis water, sports drinks and electrolyte powder to be supplied to job sites
Kumho Engineering & Construction has teamed up with Lotte Chilsung Beverage to protect construction workers from heat-related illness this summer.
Kumho Engineering & Construction announced Monday that it signed an MOU with Lotte Chilsung Beverage on June 26 at its headquarters in Jongno-gu, Seoul, to prevent heat-related illness during peak summer months.
The signing ceremony was attended by Choi Su-hwan, executive director of Kumho Engineering & Construction's safety and health division, and Seo In-hwan, head of Lotte Chilsung Beverage's Sales Division 1, along with other officials from both companies.
The agreement was drawn up in response to the heightened risk of heat-related illness at construction sites during summer heat waves, with the aim of strengthening health protections for workers.
The two companies agreed to cooperate on protecting workers' health and spreading a culture of safety at construction sites. They plan to run a "Heat Down, Safety Up" campaign at sites nationwide through September.
Under the agreement, Lotte Chilsung Beverage will supply heat-illness prevention items including Icis bottled water, sports drinks and electrolyte powder to help construction workers stay hydrated and avoid heat-related conditions during the summer.
Kumho Engineering & Construction will run a heat-wave response campaign at sites across the country through September. Together with Lotte Chilsung Beverage, the company plans to hold participatory events at four major sites in the greater Seoul area, the Chungcheong region and the Yeongnam region, featuring Gatorade beverage trucks and experience booths.
The company's headquarters safety and health operations team will also oversee heat-illness prevention events at 11 worksites nationwide. Through hands-on programs, Kumho Engineering & Construction aims to help workers internalize heat-wave safety protocols.
The company is also distributing heat-relief supplies to sites across the country, including cooling towels, cooling arm sleeves, cooling masks and ice packs.
Shaded rest areas will be set up at job sites, and mobile rest stations using Kumho Express buses will be deployed at major locations — measures designed to ensure workers can get adequate rest even in extreme heat.
"Extreme heat is one of the key hazards that must be managed at construction sites," a Kumho Engineering & Construction official said. "Through our partnership with Lotte Chilsung Beverage, we will create an environment where workers can work more safely and healthily, and continue to build a site culture that puts safety first."
Meanwhile, Wangsuk Atera, a Kumho Engineering & Construction project that launched pre-sales this month, drew strong interest in its apartment subscription. The general supply round attracted 23,525 applicants for 223 units, an average competition ratio of 105 to 1. The earlier special supply round also saw 14,001 applications for 131 units, with an average ratio of 106.9 to 1.
