Busan Port Authority pushes to upgrade transshipment transport system across all terminals

The Busan Port Authority (BPA) announced Wednesday that it will activate and upgrade the transshipment transport system (TSS) across all terminals at Busan Port through a three-month intensive operation period running from July through September.

The TSS is an integrated transport management system that assigns optimal containers to container vehicles upon entry into a terminal. BPA introduced it across all terminals at Busan Port in July last year to improve transshipment efficiency.

To that end, BPA held a briefing Tuesday for terminal operators and trucking companies using Busan Port. The session covered the system's key functions and improvements and provided guidance on the incentive regime.

BPA will operate the incentive regime on a temporary basis this year, paying out incentives to trucking companies that meet or exceed a set threshold for system usage. The total incentive payout for this year is 400 million won ($257,000), to be distributed in proportion to each company's system usage.

During the intensive operation period, BPA will run a cooperative framework with terminal operators, shipping lines and trucking companies at Busan Port to enable rapid response and on-site communication. IT and operations staff at each terminal will be dedicated to system-related support, while BPA will handle inquiries around the clock, gather on-site feedback and work with all parties to improve system stability and convenience and drive broader adoption of the TSS.
