HL D&I Halla wins 155.1 billion won expressway contract

HL D&I Halla has won a contract to build a section of the Jecheon–Yeongwol expressway worth 155.1 billion won ($99.8 million).

The company said Wednesday it had signed a deal for Package 1 of the Jecheon–Yeongwol Expressway Construction Project, awarded by Korea Expressway Corp. The contract value stands at 155.08 billion won, excluding value-added tax, with HL D&I Halla holding a 75 percent stake.

The project will build a 6.87-kilometer expressway linking Jecheon in North Chungcheong Province with Yeongwol-gun in Gangwon Province, including one tunnel and five bridges. Construction runs from July 20 to April 18, 2032.

HL D&I Halla has been building a track record in public infrastructure contracts awarded through comprehensive evaluation bidding. In March, it won a 52.8 billion won contract to extend a breakwater at Saemangeum New Port.

Last year, the company secured a string of similar awards: a 41.1 billion won power conduit project for electricity supply facilities in the Sinan–Mokpo area, a 175 billion won earthworks contract for Package 6-2 of the Southern Inland Railway between Gimcheon and Geoje, a 67.9 billion won power conduit project for electricity supply facilities in the Hanam area, and a 106.4 billion won power conduit project on the Incheon CC–Jungsan route.

"We are delivering steady results in the infrastructure sector alongside our housing business," a company official said. "We plan to expand our project portfolio with a focus on quality, guided by a contracting strategy that weighs both profitability and stability."
