Kim Young-gwang says 'Hong Myung-bo, get out' chant came out before he knew it

Former soccer player Kim Young-gwang has addressed his now-viral outburst calling for national team head coach Hong Myung-bo to resign.

Kim appeared as a guest on SBS Power FM's "Dusi Talchul Kultwo Show" on Wednesday alongside singer-actor Yewon, with Kwak Beom serving as special DJ.

Kim drew laughs when he said, "I used to be called an entertainment blue chip, but now I'm being called the honey badger of the soccer world."

Kwak Beom remarked that Kim had "shouted the best five syllables, and a meme was instantly made and started spreading."

Kim replied that the situation had left him embarrassed. "I shouted it at the airport and it's been mortifying," he said. "I got angry without realizing it while doing live commentary, and it turned into a meme — now people are chanting it together in groups."

He went on to explain what prompted the outburst. "It really came out of nowhere. As a citizen who was watching the match intensely, I got angry. I also run hot, so I just boiled over," he said.

The incident dates to June 25, when Kim was doing a live broadcast on "Tikitiki Takataka Talktalkshow" immediately after South Korea's loss to South Africa. While discussing the national team's odds of advancing to the round of 32, he suddenly shouted, "Hong Myung-bo, get out," setting off a wave of online attention.
