A wildfire broke out Saturday afternoon in the Demilitarized Zone near Oemyeon-ri, Sudong-myeon, Goseong-gun, Gangwon Province, at around 1:09 p.m., according to Yonhap News Agency.
Forest and fire authorities have deployed one helicopter to fight the blaze.
The fire is burning 1.7 kilometers south of the Military Demarcation Line and 8.3 kilometers north of the Southern Limit Line, making it inaccessible to ground personnel.
In response, 18 personnel and six pieces of equipment are on standby near the Southern Limit Line in case the fire spreads.
Once the fire is fully extinguished, authorities plan to investigate its cause and assess the extent of the damage.
