Keimyung Culture University completes volunteer service-learning program on Ulleungdo

Keimyung Culture University's Glocal Social Contribution Center announced Monday that it had recently completed the third edition of its Caritas Domestic Service-Learning program on Ulleungdo.

The Caritas Domestic Service-Learning program is a service-learning initiative rooted in Christian values, through which students share professional skills from their majors with local communities while deepening their learning through volunteer work.

A total of 27 participants took part, including 21 students — six from the nursing department, four from dental hygiene, five from the design convergence school and six from the hair design department — along with four professors and two staff members.

The volunteer team visited Ulleung Donggwang Church, the Air Force's 319th Air Defense Control Battalion and the Navy's 118th Early Warning Squadron, carrying out a range of talent-donation activities tailored to each team's field of study.

Kim Hye-in, a third-year nursing student and representative of the volunteer team, said the experience gave her a renewed appreciation for the meaning of service. "I will work even harder to grow into a medical professional with both a warm heart and strong expertise," she said.

Chae Byeong-gwan, director of the Glocal Social Contribution Center, said the university would continue to develop the program. "We will keep refining the Caritas Domestic Service-Learning program to build students' practical skills and sense of community, and further expand our social contribution activities in partnership with local communities," he said.
