The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said it will support shipping companies relocating to regional hubs and help revitalize the Busan maritime cluster, using Heung-a Shipping's planned move to Busan as a catalyst.
The ministry announced Tuesday that Minister Hwang Jong-woo attended a ceremony marking Heung-a Shipping's plan to relocate its headquarters to Busan. The company plans to complete the move by the end of this year as part of its push to become a global specialized shipping firm focused on large eco-friendly vessels.
Heung-a Shipping was founded in Busan in 1961 and moved its headquarters to Seoul in 1986. The company specializes in transporting liquid petrochemical products and other special cargo, and said the relocation will strengthen its ties with the Busan maritime cluster.
The ministry expects the move to boost the competitiveness of the regional shipping industry and help energize the Busan maritime cluster.
"We sincerely welcome and are grateful that Heung-a Shipping, which moved its headquarters to Seoul in 1986, is now returning to Busan," Hwang said. "We will provide every possible support to strengthen the competitiveness of shipping companies that relocate, and will continue working to develop Busan into a true maritime capital."
