One person is missing after a leisure fishing boat capsized off the coast of Muan-gun, with the coast guard conducting a search.
According to the Mokpo Maritime Police Station, a report came in at around 8:36 p.m. Monday that a leisure boat that had set out for fishing in waters near Tando, Muan-gun, had lost contact.
Coast guard officers who rushed to the scene rescued a man in his 70s, identified as A, who was found drifting in the water wearing a life jacket near where the boat was believed to have capsized.
A showed symptoms of hypothermia at the time but was not in a life-threatening condition, the coast guard said.
The coast guard is continuing its search for the one other person who had been aboard the boat with A.
The boat departed at 9 a.m. Monday, and the investigation found it capsized while A and B, the two passengers, were fishing.
"We will focus on rescuing the missing person B while expanding the search zone," a Mokpo coast guard official said. "We also plan to investigate the circumstances that led to the capsizing."
