New Daegu NTS chief vows to let businesses focus on operations

Park Jeong-yeol was inaugurated Wednesday as the 51st commissioner of the Daegu Regional Office of the National Tax Service, outlining AI transformation, delinquent tax management reform and regional economic support as his top priorities.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Park said the office must "faithfully carry out its core role of securing stable government revenue even amid a rapidly changing tax administration environment," urging all staff to "lead change and innovation with one mind."

Marking the National Tax Service's 60th anniversary, he said the AI transformation drive and the operation of the national delinquent tax management unit were critically important, adding that "active participation by employees and input from the field are the keys to success."

Park also said "the field is always the starting point of tax administration," pledging to improve taxpayer services through proactive administration and to overhaul unnecessary practices in pursuit of fair and efficient tax management.

He also outlined his commitment to supporting the regional economy.

Park said the office would expand practical tax support for local businesses struggling with high oil prices and a high exchange rate — including extended payment deadlines and early refund disbursements — and would allow companies to choose the timing of tax probes and minimize on-site resident investigations so that businesses can focus on their operations.

He added that he would foster an organizational culture at the Daegu Regional NTS where communication flows across ranks and generations and mutual respect is the norm, so that employees feel a sense of purpose and vitality.
