The South Jeolla-Gwangju Integrated Special City will operate five free outdoor children's water play areas in Gwangju this summer.
The water play area at Gwangju Citizens' Forest in Oryong-dong, Buk-gu, will open July 18 through Aug. 16 for children in elementary school and younger.
It will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, closing every Monday for facility inspections.
The Citizens' Forest play area spans 1,000 square meters with an average water depth of 20 centimeters, giving children a safe space to play.
The water play area at Jungoe Park Ecological Art Play Garden, also in Buk-gu, will open July 17 through Aug. 16, operating from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In Seo-gu, three water play areas — at Sangmu Citizens' Park, Ssanghak Children's Park and Mareuk Park — will open July 21 through Aug. 15, operating from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The city plans to inspect electrical facilities, including machinery rooms and motor pumps, before opening, in coordination with relevant agencies.
Trained safety personnel with first-aid certification will be on duty at all times. The city will replace all pool water daily and conduct water quality tests every 15 days.
