Ulju-gun Council elects speaker, deputy speaker for 9th assembly's first half

The Ulju-gun Council in Ulsan elected the leadership of the 9th assembly's first half and held its opening ceremony Thursday at the fourth plenary session of the 246th extraordinary session, marking the start of its legislative activities.

Jeong Woo-sik, a three-term People Power Party lawmaker, was elected speaker, while Lee Sang-woo, a two-term Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker, was elected deputy speaker.

County Chief Lee Sun-geol, Deputy County Chief No Dong-wan and senior civil servants attended the ceremony to congratulate the council on its opening.

In his opening address, Speaker Jeong said the council would "complete the remaining organizational work and pursue the development of Ulju and the happiness of its residents through cooperative governance and responsible legislative activities."

County Chief Lee said in his congratulatory remarks that he would "respect the council as the top partner in county administration and faithfully reflect residents' voices and the council's constructive criticism in how the county is run."

The council will receive reports on the policy agenda and departmental action plans for the ninth elected administration during the 247th extraordinary session, scheduled from Monday through Aug. 12. It also plans to elect the chairs of three standing committees — the Council Operations Committee, the Administrative Welfare Committee and the Economy and Construction Committee — to complete the first-half organizational structure.
