Jordan sounds nationwide air-raid alert after Iranian missiles enter its airspace

The armed conflict between the United States and Iran over the Strait of Hormuz has spread beyond the Gulf region, reaching Jordan.

Missiles fired from Iran entered Jordanian airspace Thursday, triggering nationwide air-raid alerts, and the Jordanian military intercepted all eight projectiles. Local observers said the attack appeared to target US military bases inside Jordan.

According to Jordan's state news agency, the missiles launched from Iran set off air-raid sirens across the country after entering Jordanian airspace Thursday (local time).

Mohammad Momani, Jordan's minister of state for media affairs and government spokesperson, said the Public Security Directorate had activated air-raid alerts after the Iranian missiles violated Jordanian airspace, adding that the military responded immediately and intercepted them. The state news agency said all eight intercepted missiles caused no casualties or material damage.

Momani urged the public to follow instructions from the relevant authorities and verify information only through official sources, strongly cautioning against the spread of misinformation and false claims.

Jordan's state broadcaster Al Mamlaka and other outlets said the apparent targets of the Iranian attack were US military bases inside the country. US military facilities in Jordan include those at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in the country's north-central region.

Iran has been launching retaliatory strikes against US military bases — primarily in Gulf states such as Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar — after American forces carried out airstrikes in response to Iranian attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
