Seoul's Seongdong-gu held the "2026 Hope Summer Sharing Campaign" at the district office's main auditorium on Wednesday, bringing together community partners to support vulnerable residents through the sweltering summer heat.
The campaign is run in partnership with the Seoul Community Chest of Korea to protect vulnerable groups from increasingly severe summer heat driven by abnormal climate patterns, while also promoting a culture of community sharing and year-round charitable giving.
About 40 people took part in the event, including members of the Seongdong-gu Community Social Security Council and the Community Chest's volunteer service corps. Participants hand-assembled summer survival kits destined for 600 vulnerable households in the district, preparing for record-breaking heat. District Mayor Yoo Bo-hwa also joined in the kit-making alongside volunteers.
Each kit contained items essential for surviving the peak summer months — including samgyetang and other nutritious foods, dehumidifiers, insect repellent, handheld fans and cooling blankets. Through the distribution, the district aims to prevent heat-related illness and nutritional imbalance caused by extreme heat and to help vulnerable residents stay healthy and safe through the summer.
"As extreme heat driven by climate change becomes a regular part of daily life, practical support for vulnerable residents to get through the summer in good health is becoming ever more important," District Mayor Yoo said. "We will continue to work alongside the community to look after our neighbors in need, and to make sharing and solidarity a part of everyday life."
