US military strikes Iran's air defenses again, hitting missiles and fast boats

The US military carried out additional strikes Sunday targeting Iran's missile and air defense systems, Axios reporter Barak Ravid reported.

Ravid wrote on his X account that a US official confirmed the military had conducted multiple strikes against Iranian missile and air defense systems roughly an hour earlier.

He added that US forces also struck small Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps vessels near the Strait of Hormuz — the fast attack boats the IRGC has used to assault commercial shipping in the waterway.

The strikes marked the second consecutive day US forces hit military targets inside Iran, following Sunday's attacks. Based on the timing of Ravid's post, the latest strikes are believed to have taken place around 11:20 a.m. Eastern time.

It was the fourth time US forces have struck Iranian military targets in response to Iran's resumption of attacks on commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, which began July 7.

Iranian state news agency IRNA reported that an Iranian official said 10 to 11 enemy projectiles struck Qeshm Island that evening. The official said the targets were military facilities and that there were no casualties.

Qeshm Island, located in the Strait of Hormuz, hosts Iranian military radar and surveillance installations and has become a key target as US-Iran tensions have flared anew in recent weeks.
