LS Electric will jointly develop core direct current (DC) power technology for AI data centers with global power chipmaker Infineon Technologies.
LS Electric announced Monday that it signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation on AI data center and DC power technology development at its R&D campus in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province, on Friday.
The signing ceremony was attended by An Gil-young, LS Electric's executive vice president overseeing production and R&BD; Andreas Weisl, chief sales officer and senior vice president of the industrial and infrastructure division at Infineon Technologies; and Lee Seung-su, chief executive of Infineon Technologies Korea, along with other officials.
Under the partnership, the two companies will jointly develop next-generation semiconductor-based DC power solutions, including a power conversion system (PCS) for energy storage systems (ESS), a solid-state transformer (SST) and a solid-state circuit breaker (SSCB).
Semiconductor-based DC power solutions are considered a core power technology for ultra-high-density power environments such as AI data centers, as they reduce power conversion stages to minimize energy loss and improve system efficiency.
The two companies plan to collaborate on technology development to enhance the power and voltage conversion efficiency of next-generation DC power systems while also strengthening their stability and reliability.
LS Electric will lead commercialization efforts by handling system design, integration and deployment, drawing on its accumulated expertise in power systems and industrial automation. Infineon Technologies will support the development of high-efficiency, high-performance DC power infrastructure systems based on its world-class power semiconductor and power control technology.
