Coins marking Korea's first time hosting as chair nation go on sale July 20-22, limited to 1,400 pieces
Visitors will have a chance to purchase commemorative coins marking the 48th UNESCO World Heritage Committee session in person at the venue.
The Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation announced Monday that it has arranged a special on-site sales opportunity for domestic and international visitors and collectors who missed the online reservation period, allowing them to see the coins in person before buying.
The on-site sales will run for three days — Monday through Wednesday next week — at the 48th UNESCO World Heritage Committee General Assembly, held at Bexco in Busan, in the rest zone inside the Republic of Korea pavilion. The sales space will also display a range of popular products from the corporation, including currency-themed merchandise, as part of an effort to promote Korean coin culture to domestic and international attendees.
The commemorative coins were designed to mark the general assembly, which Korea is hosting as chair nation for the first time in the 38 years since it joined the World Heritage Convention.
A total of 1,400 pieces will be available on-site across three options: a silver coin (99.9% pure silver, 32mm diameter, 14g, face value 70,000 won ($46)), a cupronickel coin (75% copper and 25% nickel, 40mm diameter, 26g, face value 30,000 won), and a two-coin set.
"We hope this will be a great opportunity to broaden our direct contact with customers at an international event and open new sales channels for commemorative coins," President Sung Chang-hoon said. "We ask for your continued attention and interest in the 48th UNESCO World Heritage Committee General Assembly and its commemorative coins."
