The Daegu City Council elected Kim Ju-beom (Dalseo-gu 6) as chair of the Budget and Settlement Special Committee and Jeong Il-gyun (Suseong-gu 1) as chair of the Ethics Special Committee at the first plenary session of the 327th extraordinary session on Tuesday.
The budget committee, chaired by Kim and with Kim Jung-gun as vice chair, comprises 11 members in total — including Kwon O-seop, Lee Hyeong-won, Lee Won-u, Park Chung-hee, Heo Jeong-su, Lee Dong-un, Im Hyo-sin, Ju Ho-dong and Choe Jae-gyu — and will review the combined budgets of the city and its education office, which amount to 17 trillion won ($11.5 billion).
"I feel the weight of this responsibility," Kim said. "I will do my utmost to ensure that the budget translates into policies that citizens and students can feel in their daily lives, fulfilling its true value."
The ethics committee, with Kim Hae-cheol as vice chair, has seven members — including Kim Ju-beom, Oh Myeong-hwan, Park Hyeon-gyu, Im Hyo-sin and Choe Wan-sik — and will handle matters related to lawmakers' ethics, qualifications and disciplinary actions, as well as compliance with codes of ethics and conduct, serving as the council's self-regulatory body.
"Integrity is the starting point of public trust and a core value the council must uphold," Jeong said. "I will do my best to raise the council's ethical standards through fair and rigorous review, and to make the Daegu City Council one that citizens trust even more."
