Songpa-gu showcases young artists at Seokchon Lake cultural space

Seoul's Songpa-gu announced Wednesday that it will run a series of cultural arts programs at Hosu, an experimental cultural space at Seokchon Lake, under the theme "Beat the Heat with Art."

Throughout August, the space will offer classes spanning reading, visual arts, crafts, cooking and music. The monthly program lineup — dubbed "Hosu Lab August" — includes a summer reading club, a lake-painting workshop, a dosirak flower-arrangement class, a baby's first shoes workshop, a pressed-flower keyring class and a net-bag knitting session.

Also on the program are exhibitions by visual artists affiliated with The Impact, a Songpa-gu youth arts collective. The series opens Tuesday, July 28, with Kim Min-seo's solo show "Fate Is ( )," running through Aug. 9, followed by "Overlapping and Continuing" by the duo Team Yungyung (Kim Yun-u and Kim Yun-ji) from Aug. 11 to Aug. 23. Works by Kang Min-ju will then be on display from Aug. 25 to Sept. 6.

All exhibitions are open without advance reservations. The space operates Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is closed on Mondays and public holidays. Exhibition-linked programs and arts classes can be booked in advance through the Seoul Public Service Reservation system.

"Summer is a season when body and mind can easily grow weary from the heat," district mayor Seo Gang-seok said. "I hope residents will visit Hosu at Seokchon Lake, take in the young artists' exhibitions, connect with the artists and find renewed energy in their daily lives."

Hosu sits on the western shore of Seokchon Lake in a building that formerly housed a restaurant and was renovated by Songpa-gu into a cultural arts space for residents. It first opened in the spring of 2020.
