Kim Hyeong-dong, a two-term lawmaker representing the Andong-Yecheon constituency, has been elected as the next North Gyeongsang Province chapter chair of the People Power Party.
The party's North Gyeongsang chapter said Monday that its steering committee convened that day and voted to designate Kim — the sole registered candidate — as the next chapter chair.
Kim is set to be formally confirmed in the role after the party's supreme council gives final approval Thursday.
Meanwhile, the selection of a new Daegu chapter chair for the People Power Party is expected to take more time.
The Daegu chapter had earlier moved to nominate two-term lawmaker Kwon Young-jin of the Dalseo-B constituency as its next chair.
However, after Kwon caused a stir by grabbing floor leader Jeong Jeom-sik by the collar in a dispute over standing committee seat allocations for the second half of the legislative term, the party decided to postpone the chair selection for further discussion.
