DB Insurance marks 14 years of support for Chungju Sungsim School with W30m scholarship

DB Insurance said Wednesday it has presented a 30 million won ($20,500) scholarship to Chungju Sungsim School, a special education institution for students with hearing disabilities.

The presentation ceremony was held at the school on July 13, bringing together DB Insurance executives and staff, school faculty, and the baseball team's coaching staff to show support for the students' dreams and development. The scholarship funds are earmarked for tuition assistance for students facing financial hardship and for the operation of the school's baseball team.

DB Insurance has provided annual scholarships to Chungju Sungsim School since signing a sponsorship agreement with the institution in 2013, maintaining the partnership as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts. The school also served as the real-life inspiration for "Glove," a film based on the true story of the school's hearing-impaired baseball team. Including this year's contribution, cumulative donations have reached about 340 million won over 14 years.

Beyond financial support, the company has engaged with students through a range of programs. Employees from its North Chungcheong Province division have volunteered for campus improvement projects, donated equipment for the baseball team, and invited students to games featuring the DB Promy basketball team. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the company also delivered care packages containing daily necessities — which it called "promise boxes" — to support students through difficult circumstances.

"We hope that 14 years of walking alongside Chungju Sungsim School has been a small source of strength for the students' growth," a DB Insurance official said. "We will continue to fulfill our corporate social responsibility and carry out community engagement activities that grow together with local society."
