Promotional content created by students at Gwangju University (President Kim Dong-jin) is now being shown on the media wall at Baegwun Square in Nam-gu, drawing public attention.
The university began broadcasting two student-produced videos Monday through the Baegwun Square media wall as the first tangible outcome of a "local community partnership and media wall content production" MOU it recently signed with the Nam-gu district office (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) of the South Jeolla Province-Gwangju integrated special city.
Eight students from their first through third years took part in the project under the supervision of Ahn Hye-hyeon, a professor in the visual image design department. Participants included third-year students Ma Gyeong-ryun, Lee Si-on and Son Nam-ju. One video, "Penguin Village," reinterprets Yangnim-dong's Penguin Village — a signature tourism destination in Nam-gu — through animated characters, capturing the neighborhood's charm in an approachable way. The other, "NamGu," visualizes the achievements of the youth space known as "Cheongnyon Warak" to show how Nam-gu is evolving into a city where young people gather.
Both videos are the result of students handling every stage of the process, from concept to production. The project took shape over several months, beginning with a planning proposal in March under Gwangju University's anchor project (formerly the RISE project), followed by working-level consultations in April and the MOU signing in July. Some say the collaboration serves as a model for government-university partnership, giving students hands-on, project-based experience while providing the community with brand content reinterpreted through a youth lens.
Gwangju University and the Nam-gu district office plan to produce additional content, including seasonal videos, for continued broadcast on the media wall.
