Lawmaker Kim visits Pohang fish farms to assess damage, discuss relief measures

Rep. Kim Jeong-jae of the People Power Party, who represents Pohang's Buk-gu district in the National Assembly, visited fish farm sites Saturday to inspect damage and discuss relief measures and response plans with relevant authorities.

Kim toured Odo Susan in Odori, Heunghae-eup, and Cheongyang Susan in Josari, Songra-myeon, examining the extent of damage at each facility firsthand and listening to the concerns of fish farmers.

The on-site inspection was attended by the North Gyeongsang Province director of marine and fisheries affairs and the head of the fisheries industry division, Pohang's director of marine and fisheries affairs and director of fisheries policy, the heads of Heunghae-eup and Songra-myeon, North Gyeongsang Provincial Assembly members Kim Sang-baek and Kim Sang-il, and Pohang City Council members Kim Hu-hwan, Yu Heung-geun and Kim Seung-ri.

After reviewing the damage to the farm facilities, Kim heard directly from fish farmers about the difficulties they faced and the support they needed. He urged North Gyeongsang Province and Pohang city to accurately assess the full extent of the damage and respond swiftly.

Kim said close coordination among relevant agencies was essential to ease the financial burden on affected farming households, and that practical, tangible support measures needed to be put in place.

"I feel a deep sense of heaviness thinking about how great the grief and hardship must be for these fish farmers," Kim said. "I will work closely with North Gyeongsang Province, Pohang city and other relevant agencies to minimize the difficulties facing affected households and do everything possible to help them restore their livelihoods as quickly as possible."
