Rehabilitation sessions use aromatherapy, horticulture and other therapeutic approaches
A dedicated trauma healing center for victims and bereaved families of the Yeosu-Suncheon Oct. 19 Incident has opened in Suncheon, with the facility holding its first rehabilitation program.
The Yeosu-Suncheon 10·19 Trauma Healing Center said the session — the first since the center opened last month — brought together 13 bereaved family members for aromatherapy-based activities designed to offer a brief respite from daily life, encourage self-reflection and foster open communication.
Participants experienced a range of aromatherapy oils firsthand and took part in activities built around them. The scents served as a natural conversation starter, giving attendees a chance to share their experiences and tend to their emotional well-being together.
A center official said the facility plans to expand opportunities for victims and their families to care for themselves and connect with one another by running rehabilitation programs that draw on a variety of therapeutic media, including aromatherapy and horticulture.
