Yonsei University has announced tightened security measures after a masked, naked man repeatedly appeared near dormitories on its Sinchon campus.
According to the university, Yonsei issued a notice to dormitory residents Thursday saying "a safety-related incident occurred due to an unauthorized outsider entering the residential zone," and announced it would temporarily close the entrance connecting Muak Dormitory No. 1 to Ansan to restrict outside access. The closure targets trail entrances on Ansan that lead to the Sinchon campus.
The university also said it would increase streetlight brightness along walkways and step up security patrols.
On Wednesday, a man wearing only a black mask sexually assaulted a student in front of a dormitory on the Sinchon campus before fleeing.
Police said a similarly dressed man had sexually assaulted a passerby on a walking trail on Ansan on June 12, and that a man matching the same description was reported by a passerby on July 21 after being spotted hiding in bushes near the same trail.
Police believe all three incidents — including Wednesday's assault — were committed by the same man, and are analyzing closed-circuit television footage to identify him.
Seodaemun Police Station chief Lee Sun-myung visited the walking trail near the Sinchon campus dormitory Friday afternoon to inspect the scene.
