KT Corp is stepping up its strategy to become an AX platform company, pouring resources into company-wide IT modernization through an AI-native initiative called "Next IT."
KT announced Monday that it will expand the scope of its IT system modernization under the Next IT strategy to cover platforms, infrastructure and work environments across the entire organization, transitioning in stages to a next-generation IT framework built on AI-native foundations.
The initiative rests on three pillars — Next IT Platform, Next IT Infrastructure and Next IT Works — aimed at strengthening system stability and security while improving the agility of service development and operations to keep pace with a changing business environment.
Under Next IT Platform, KT will pursue the modernization of its core workplace platforms, including a phased upgrade of major systems such as its enterprise resource planning system, integrated billing support system and next-generation operations support system, alongside broader business process innovation.
KT also plans to advance key customer services — including authentication and payment — and its data utilization framework using AI, while offering personalized services through online channels such as KT.com and My KT. The platform modernization aims to help the company respond quickly to market shifts while improving employee productivity.
Next IT Infrastructure focuses on building a next-generation IT infrastructure centered on stability and security. KT will enhance the reliability and security of its infrastructure through Next IPC, a next-generation internal private cloud environment. Systems whose software or hardware support has ended or is nearing end-of-life will be proactively reviewed and migrated. KT will also strengthen backup and disaster recovery frameworks to ensure continuity of key services even during outages.
Next IT Works embeds AI directly into day-to-day work processes. KT is applying AI across the full IT lifecycle — from planning and design through development, testing and operations — centered on AID-X, an expanded version of its existing AI-based development framework AIDD that extends AI support to every stage of IT work.
As part of this effort, KT will build an integrated AX platform to effectively deploy and manage in-house AI agents, and will roll out AI agent use across employee workflows company-wide. The company also plans to extend its AI-based work practices across all group affiliates to strengthen organization-wide AX execution.
In addition, KT intends to use Next IT to align its platforms, infrastructure and work practices with the AI era, connecting those changes to customer service improvements, operational innovation and new AX business opportunities.
"Next IT is a strategy that takes KT's ongoing IT modernization efforts one step further for the AI era," said Ok Gyeong-hwa, KT's chief information officer and executive vice president of the IT division. "We will strengthen the stability and security of our core platforms and infrastructure, and apply AI across development and operations to raise the quality of customer service and employee productivity."
